About The Young Israel of Hewlett

About our Rabbi

Rabbi Heshy Blumstein has been with us since 1999. Prior to the Young Israel of Hewlett, Rabbi Blumstein was the Assistant Rabbi at the Young Israel of Bedford Bay and Madison in Brooklyn, NY. Rabbi Blumstein is also currently the Program Director for the Gateways Seminars and is affiliated with the Ohel Children's Home- Bais Ezra Home for Young Adults. Rabbi Blumstein received his Smicha from Yeshivat ITRI and an Advanced Certificate in Rabbinics from Touro College. The Rabbi and his wife, Rebbetzin Mimi Blumstein are the proud parents of their 11 children.

We welcome you to visit our Shul and to spend a Shabbat with us. To arrange accommodations for your family or regarding any other questions you may have, please contact Rabbi Heshy Blumstein at 516.668.6554.

Membership

We have a terrific mix of young and growing families as well as multi-generational families. Visitors to our Shul will find that there is a genuine sense of community and family. Our weekly sponsored kiddushim provide members and visitors with casual socializing opportunities. The programs and committees also provide members with ways to support the Shul and its members.

Our Shul is unique because our members range from absolute beginners to advanced observers. All members feel they can learn and grow spiritually as we have programs for every need.

Sisterhood

The sisterhood members are as diverse as our Shul. Professionals and homemakers, young mothers, grandmothers and all women in between contribute to the success of this committee. The sisterhood has many successful fundraising programs such as the Holiday Boutique and Mishloach Manot baskets. They also sponsor "girls night out" events just for fun. There is also meaningful programming to help our women grow and learn within the context of Torah and Judaism.

Youth

The Youth Department in our Shul is an integral part of our programming. We have Shabbat morning youth services and activities, as well as special events for each holiday. We are very proud of our children. We make sure they are part of our service every Shabbat and we "shep nachas"as we see them grow. You can contact the Youth Department at youth@yihewlett.org.

Eruv

There is an eruv for the Young Israel of Hewlett. Eruv status will soon be available on Fridays via the e-mail ListServ and by calling the Shul office.
